Baby Steps

IMG_0917

Don’t be fooled.

Even if I look happy in this photo, I’m actually barely awake.

These photos were taken after The Boy and I had gotten up at the crack of dawn to get to the China Visa offices. The office hadn’t even opened yet and there was already a winding queue around the building. It was crazy! But luckily everything is sorted and hopefully our visas should be ready before our trip to China this Thursday. Eep!

Do you want to hear (read?) something ridiculous? The handbag that I’m wearing is my first handbag that I’ve bought for myself. Crazy right?! Up until now I’ve had a backpack for school and hand-me-down handbags. I loved them and I loved the people who gave them to me. But at 25 years old it’s time to grow up and buy yourself a handbag.

Baby steps towards adulthood.

Plannings

Happy Weekend Friends!

The Boy and I have been on a planning frenzy lately.

These past few days we’ve booked our trip to Spain and Morocco (for January), to Kaiping in China for next weekend (eep visas!) and tomorrow I’m going to Macau! It’s been BANANAS.

If you’ve been to any of these places I’d love to hear some tips. Also generally useful travel tips, like how to be safe or to save money are always welcome.

I’ve stolen The Boy’s university tote. Just ’cause I can.

I have to say that I’m mighty happy that it’s cooled down enough in HK to wear long sleeves. But I’m still wearing sandals so clearly it’s not actually cold yet. Boo.

In other wonderful news, on Monday I hand in my last assessment for passing the bar. I’m sooooo close to actually being a lawyer (assuming I pass – eep!). Wish me luck and have a great weekend!

Party Dress

2013-10-31 19.22.52

Hello friends!

This is a very special dress to me.

I bought it for the occasion of the sheva brachot after our wedding.

For Jewish weddings the fun doesn’t just stop the day of your wedding. Instead for 7 days after the wedding you have a small dinner party each night hosted by family and/or friends. Some people find all the socialising annoying, and we definitely found it exhausting. But it was a good way to let us back into ‘real’ life slowly.

This brooch was a birthday present from The Boy. He knows me so well, it’s just my style!

Details: Dress – Princess Highway Outlet. Tights – Shilin Night Markets, Taiwan. Shoes – Aerosoles. Pin – Gifted. Hat – The Boy (used to belong to his uncle). Bag – Stolen from my Mamma, she got it in Florence in 1987.

Do you guys have any sentimental pieces of clothing? Any great stories from them?

P.S. I just came home from a long day of volunteering to find The Boy editing our wedding video. What a sweetie!

non-nakedness in Taiwan

Let me just say that the shopping and fashion in Taiwan were awesome! On our first night The Boy and I dropped our bags at the hostel and headed out to the Shilin night markets. They don’t close till almost 2am! There were food stalls (but not much vegetarian food) as well as amazing and cheap shopping!

So this outfit was assisted by the addition of a brand new shirt and tights from Taipei.

And these photos were taken in front of the Maokong Gondola.

Don’t let that name fool you, it’s actually a cable car, it doesn’t go anywhere near the water. Super misleading.

But sadly to The Boy and mine’s disappointment when arrived early Monday morning at the Gondola is was closed for maintenance. So instead we took outfit photos and bought bubble tea. Love me some bubble tea!

Outfit details: Dress (worn as skirt) – Asos. Headband – ebay. Shirt and tights – Night markets. Shoes – Aerosoles (sooo comfy).

So this is my attempt at a practical, comfortable but still not hideous tourist outfit – do you think I pulled it off? Any tips for what to wear when you are a fashionable tourist?

A return to non-nakedness

Back in the day I used to do personal style posts. I thought they were pretty fun and a good way to document my modest style. But now I have a whole new fashion and modesty challenge. Since getting married I’ve started wearing something on my head in public. Sometimes it’s a scarf or a hat or a headband. You can read about it here.

Outfit 1.1 outfit 1.3 outfit 1.2

I promise I was happy, just sometimes it’s hard to smile and not be awkward in front of the camera.

Plus a link up with WSC!

Outfit details: Dress – Asos. Shoes – Saltwater. Scarf – Thrifted in HK.

P.S. The Boy and I are leaving today for a long weekend in Taiwain! Very exciting!

Non-Nakedness

Hi all,

Sorry for being absent.

I was too busy being in love and all.

Very time consuming.

But I did manage to take some photos of my Shabbat outfit this week on Friday afternoon.

Top: Portmans. Skirt: Thrifted in Jerusalem. Belt: Borrowed (permanently) from my brother. Necklace: ebay. Tights: Target. Boots: Wittners.

This is my friend Ellie.

Not only is she a wonderful person but she is also a wonderful photographer.

And a great cook!

We all went away this weekend. It was a wonderful trip to the country for a conference style festival of Jewish learning.

Was great fun.

I even gave a talk!

Except the boys got rained out of their tents.

The smart girls were safe and dry in  cabins.

Such smart cookies us girls.

Hope your weekends were as fun as mine was!

xoxo Ellyse

Still Not Naked

Ok I’ll admit that I do look abit surprised/confused/constipated.

This is an unfortunate picture of the very pretty sunset.

The details are: Hat – Borrowed from The Boy’s lovely sister. Dress – thrifted in Jerusalem, had it shortened and had the triangle added to the v’neck for bonus modesty. Shoes – Clear Jellybabies from the market in Jerusalem.

I bought The Boy this T-shirt. Because like many other dictators with a penchant for irony he just loves juice. 10 points if you know the reference.

Meanwhile – I could pretend that the low image quality is some sort of awesome hipster photoshopping. But no. I’d actually like my nice photos back. Please laptop. Be kind. Have mercy!

xoxo
