the details pt 3

wedding - the shrine

Part 3 in the details of that wonderful day in August.

Above is a photo of the ‘heritage table’ we had set up in the hall. It included photos from our parents’ and siblings’ weddings as well as old photographs of our grandparents and great grandparents. It was nice to show that we were joining in a chain of tradition and linking our two families together.

Late one Saturday night we (my Mum, Mum-in-law, sister-in-law and even bro-in-law) made like 100 meters (not sure what that is in feet) of handmade bunting for the hall. It worked out perfect though. Thanks guys!

On the tables we had a runner of burlap, then thrifted and inherited doilies. On the doilies we places jars (we collected like 200 – it was a big Jewish wedding) and thrifted tea cups and sauces. In the jars and tea cups were babies breath flowers and succulents.

This is a very blurry photo of us putting the succulents in the tea cups and jars.

It was late at night. We were delirious.

This is another blurry photo, this time of the many doilies that we collected. Oh and of the kippa I was crocheting for The Boy for the big day. Oh and of mini pancakes that my brother made to sustain us while we did wedding prep.

Fun times at the hardware store doing wedding prep.

2013-07-24 19.04.38The babies breath! We didn’t use a florist, instead the day before the wedding my Mum, Mum-in-law and Sister-in-law went to the local floral markets and bought the flowers wholesale. Then we arranged them ourselves and my sister-in-law (who is totally amazing and crazy talented) even made my bouquet.

So those are some maybe helpful hints about doing fun decor without spending too many monies.

Do you guys have any thrifty wedding tips?

engagement

I’m back from Taiwan, but before I go through my photos and share the highlights I thought I’d do a post on past events.

So before I got married, I got engaged.

There isn’t really much of a story but there was a lovely private moment with a picnic in the park with a huge ornamental kale as a present.

The aforementioned ornamental kale.

We had a huge spontaneous party with our friends and family the night we announced the engagement. We call it a L’chaim.

We were also lucky enough to have an exceptional artist do our engagement and wedding photos. Here’s just a few of my favourites.
