Sweet New Year

Hi again, it’s Talmud!

So it was just Jewish New Year and as I mentioned last post, there is a custom to eat symbolic foods. I was inspired by Rockstar Diaries’s post on cinnamon rolls and decided to make some as a dessert for a lunch. My post-fact justification was that the rolls are round (similar to how the sacramental bread, challa, is made round during the New Year period) which symbolises the circle of life and the new cycle that begins with the new year. Also, they are sweet! Anyway, they were delicious if not as well-formed as Josh’s. I used a combination of two recipes (I wanted a shortening-free dough with a vanilla icing).

Here are some photos:

Otherwise, the holiday was lots of fun. There was heaps of walking (we don’t drive on Jewish festivals and the sabbath) and eating with family and friends. The services were beautiful with lots of singing.
